Honoring the legacy of Jeff Seinfeld's work on "bad objects," "empty core," and "negative therapeutic reaction":
Moving from the Prison of Pornography to the Freedom of Relatedness: Pornography Addiction and Its Object Relations Treatment - by Dr. Jack Schwartz
This paper, employing the notion of the "bad object" and "empty core" as Jeff Seinfeld described it, will explore the various aspects of addiction to pornography as seen the the long term treatment of a young man. The discussion will illustrate the psychodynamic factors that underlie pornography addiction (can apply to other addictive states) as well as the overall exploration of effective object relational paradigms that can inform the practitioner and patient on the road from schizoid immersion in fantasy to true relational involvement.
At the end of the workshop, we will view the unabridged film footage featuring Dr. Jeffrey Seinfeld presenting at the ORI's 1997 annual conference "Negative Therapeutic Reaction".
