COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Dreaming is central to life and a quintessentially human capacity. Dreams speak in a different language than the one that dominates our ordinary lives. They reveal where we are struggling and how we might be set free and heal. Sigmund Freud called dreams “the royal road to the unconscious,” as they provide guidance and direction and help us cope with embodied existence.
In this new experiential five-week intensive course with Dr. Rubin, we will explore Dr. Montague Ullman’s unique approach to group (and individual) dream work. Montague Ullman’s visionary approach enriched and broadened the wonderful work of Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung, and greatly deepened our understanding of, and ability to decipher, this foreign language. Dr. Ullman’s experiential group process not only illuminates our nighttime life, but it creates a special and cohesive sense of connection and community. Prior course participants concurred that Ullman’s dream group method provided a “fun, enlightened, and transformative experience.”
This course is open for mental health practitioners who would like to deepen their understanding of dreams and how to apply this new experiential knowledge to therapeutic treatment of self-analysis. It also will be useful for all laypeople who are interested in self-investigation and self-exploration.
Each class will consist of meditation practice, intensive study of a dream, discussion of suggested readings, and then – group process and group dialogue.
