This workshop will help the participants to explore how time experienced as an internal holding object emerges within internal potential space, allowing one living "in the moment" and "eternal now" moment. Topics of time as psychic dialectic between linear /mortality / persecutory time and "in the moment" /non-linear/ "holding" time, and the intersubjective dialogue between potential time and potential space - will be discussed.
In the experiential part of this workshop, Dr. Kavaler-Adler will employ a guided psychic visualization approach to promote internal world dialogues that address these challenges related to persecutory time, fears of mortality, and self-sabotage. She will help each workshop participant to discover the emerging improvisation of the “rest of their lives.” She will help them both dialogue with their time-oriented goals, and to relinquish control over their mental agendas, so that the improvisations of the latter parts of their lives can play themselves out in the organic flow of time.
Dr. Kavaler-Adler will help participants tune into their resistances to surrendering to the organic flow of time, so that “deadlines” can become an improvisational part of the dance of life, rather than intrusions from linear time that are felt as persecutory and deadening. A group process generally emerges through sharing these internal dialogues. This psychic visualization process is employed by Dr. Kavaler-Adler in her monthly intensive psychotherapy and mourning group for the past 18 years.
